How to display/store text/BLOB data formatted data

I am very very new in PHP/MySQL. I am developing a website where user can save document (Ward/formatted text/ html etc.) using cut & past or typing. For example a resume. I am using text/bolb feild in MySQL to store this information.
My problem is when I try to display information in a web page; the text does not maintain format/line break/ paragraph. I think you get the idea. I have seen lot of websites where you can submit information (such as resume posting) and display that information in nice formated display.
I am pretty sure I can do it using PHP/Mysql but I don't have any idea where to start or look for.
Can anyone give me a direction where to start or how to do this?
