That message says you are using the wrong username and/or password.
If you have another username/password combo that works, use it to get in, then edit the mysql.user table to fix the username/password combo that doesn't work.
Otherwise, assuming this is your server, follow the instruction uder "Reset 'root' password" at
http://www.artfulsoftware.com/infotree/mysqltips.php.
