GUID Datatype

I have recently noticed that mysql doesn't support the "GUID" datatype that SqlServer has. Well, I have a DB that uses GUID extensivly. I was wondering what is in place or what viable alternatives do I have in replacing such a datatype.

Also, I have noticed that early in the tutorial that using an int as a Primary key and then using a auto increment for that PK seems to be a standard. Is this true? Do most sql DB's use the auto increment standard for PK's? Thank you.
