I use to set the class path in both the developer enviroment(netbean) and in the web server(glassfish) for being sure. the jar file you often download separately from mysql i don't think it comes with the mysql library. If you make make the path just in the connector in the developer enviroment you maybee see the tables but it don't mean your compiled file does.
