Access 2003 is very slow

I have an Access/MySQL application that runs perfectly in Access 2002/XP. I have done the usual "tricks" of ticking the "Return Matching Rows" in MyODBC and adding a Timestamp column etc. The problem is that running the exact same .mdb file in Access 2003 performs REALLY badly.

For example, a simple passthru query that runs in under 1 second on Access 2002 to return c. 5,500 rows takes over 30 seconds on Access 2003! The problem appears to be on the client in that MySQL does not report it as a long-running query, and the client is showing msaccess.exe using c. 50% of the CPU for the whole 30+ seconds whilst running the query. Has anyone seen performance issues with MySQL and Access 2003 before? I'm using MySQL 4.1.18 and MyODBC 3.51.10 and the clients are running WinXP. I've tried this on a number of client machines and always have the same result - Access 2002 is always fine, Access 2003 is always very slow! I'm really struggling to figure out how to fix it!
