Date format in MySQL

Hi All,
I developed a program with Access as Back End and VB6 as Front End.
Now, I changed the database to MySQL. In Access we can store the date data type in "dd/mm/yyyy". Is it possible to store the date data type in MySQL like I did in Access "dd/mm/yyyy". I checked PostgresSQL, they are having a command "Set Style"
I think this is very important issue.
