Wenn's nichts Eleganteres gibt, hätte ich zumindest eine Lösung ganz ohne MAX:

SELECT name FROM
(SELECT name, SUM(wert) AS w FROM tbl WHERE wert>0 GROUP BY name) AS s
ORDER BY w DESC LIMIT 1
