MySQL 4.1 Migration/Move to New Server

Afternoon Folk ...

I am rather a newbie to MySQL so forgive my ignorance on some technical aspects.

We are needing to move our 12GB MySQL 4.1 DB from one data center to another via wire (sending it via the network rather than a physical move on a USB drive ... DCs are located in different cities).

What is the FASTEST/Most RELIABLE method to get the file over?

Is it possible to create a backup of the DB the day before the real move of the data center, move that backup copy to the new DC, restore it to the new server THEN ...

The next night when the cutover happens, we grab the transaction log with the updates that have occured since the full backup the day before, then move that smaller file (hopefully) down the wire to the new server and restore it over the top of the DB that we created with the full backup the day before?

Any and ALL help is greatly appriciated!!!

Thanks
