Upgrade 4.0.24 - > 5.0.Latest - mysqldump method

I know mysql.com recommends going 4.0 -> 4.1 -> 5.0 using the upgrade scripts.

But I would like to do a new install of 5.0 and import just my database from a 4.0 install. I will dump the database using --opt. I am not going to import any MySQL system tables just my database.

Is this method safe? The database is Latin1 Character set. I don't think I would have any problems importing it.

I run the "Linux (x86, glibc-2.2, "standard" is static)" version of MySQL.
