MySQL Database Administrator - Toronto (GTA)

Full time position in Toronto (GTA) with salary at 60-70K. Will accept junior level if the necessary skills are present. Please contact me at chris.kimberley@gmail.com if the following description describes your level of MySQL expertise.

Please contact ONLY if you have relevant MySQL experience. You will have experience installing, upgrading and maintaining MySQL. Knowledge of replication, migration and disaster recovery are all assets. Please do not contact if you are not familiar with the above.

You will be responsible for ensuring the ongoing availability and performance of our clients’ web sites. The database administrator will also contribute to the completion of projects to enhance site functionality, capacity, and performance.

Responsibilities:

Perform regular database maintenance on production database instances
Identify and analyze database performance issues and provide guidance and assistance to development teams
Support development and QA activities through the creation and management of database environments
Participate on cross-functional teams to complete project deliverables
Provide on-call support to other team members
Ensure effectiveness and completeness of backup and archival jobs

Qualifications:

Strong verbal and written communication and analytical skills
Experience with MySQL
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering or related discipline
Experience working in a fast-paced PHP/Ruby web application environment
Demonstrated strong MySQL and/or PostgreSQL administration knowledge * Basic database server knowledge
Working functional Linux knowledge
Familiar with data warehousing and ETL concepts
VMware/Xen experience an asset
