MySQL DBA in either Irving, TX or Phoenix, AZ

A life science company is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join an innovative team in the Irving area. Senior Database Administrators are responsible for supporting and improving the effectiveness of all databases within the company. Responsibilities include reviewing, evaluating, designing, implementing and maintaining databases. This position requires the understanding of database usage and the best way to optimize and support the databases. Knowledge and experience with disaster recovery plans and creating robust database infrastructure is key.

Job Responsibilities:
• Provide database administration and maintenance for custom and packaged software applications to include installation, configuration, monitoring, space management, database backup and recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Manage day to day database operations and support programmers.
• Evaluate and recommend new database technologies.
• Detect, troubleshoot, and resolve database server-related issues.
• Enforce and follow current software development life cycle (SDLC) processes to include production change control procedures and standards.
• Perform database build support for application build deployments
• Maintain database documentation of hardware and software configuration.
• Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard computer databases including, but not limited to logging, replication, and back-up.
• Develop database programs to store, locate, and retrieve specific data and information.
• Data Warehouse knowledge of the Microsoft BI stack is essential.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
• Install, build, configure and maintain MySQL and MS SQL Server and database infrastructure.
• Recommend hardware configurations which include: logical and physical design, layout and sizing of databases.
• Performance tuning and optimization.
• Administer all database objects: indexes, tables, views, constraints, functions and stored procedures.
• Ensure that all workloads are executed on time as defined by their schedule.
• Manage and perform disaster recovery plans and processes.
• Manage data security.
• Apply database patches.
• Ability to maintain multiple environments: i.e. Development, QA, UAT and Production.
• Ability to write good technical documentation.
• DBA knowledge of MySQL is required.
• Experience working with MS SQL is required.
• Experience working with Oracle is a plus.
• Knowledge of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition is a plus.
• Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong leadership, teaming/interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills are required.
• Drive for Results (Service, Quality, and Continuous Improvement) – Ensure procedures and processes are in place that lead to delivery of quality results and continually reassess their effectiveness to achieve continuous improvement.
• Communication – Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to share and receive information and ideas from all levels of the organization in order to achieve the desired results.
• Teamwork – Commitment to the successful achievement of team and organizational goals through a desire to participate with and help other members of the team.
• Customer Service Focus – Demonstrate a focus on listening to and understanding client/customer needs and then delighting the client/customer by exceeding service and quality expectations.

Education, Certification/Licensure, and/or Experience
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
• MySQL experience required.
• Microsoft SQL and Oracle database certifications/experience a plus.
• Three to five years of experience as a database administrator; some experience in application programming in similar coding language as required for specific job function.
