general question on procedures

I'm looking into whether using procedures is a good idea architectually in MySQL.

I've coded extensively in PLSQL in Oracle, and have been known to do some TransactSQL as well. In Oracle there is are some great benefits to be had by using stored procedures when used correctly.

I've seen some people here post articles that seem to indicate you should stay away from procedures in MySQL for performance reasons.

just wondering on people's thoughts on this.
