Nesting BEGIN-END in stored programs

First of all, hello everybody, my name is Joe and Im interested to learn about MySQL stuff.

So for my first newbie query I would like to know why do we nest BEGIN-END blocks inside stored programs? Is this related to error handling, or is it because of the code readability or something else.

I thank you for any pushes in the right direction!

Joe
