problem with STR_TO_DATE

Hi! well this is my little problem
When i do SELECT STR_TO DATE ('18/08/04','%d/%n/%Y') mySQL answer that i have a syntax error

and The same when i try to use GET_FORMAT(DATE,'USA')

I'm using mysql 4.02a on a win XP and win 98 and in both case i have the same problem
