problem saving unicode numbers in mysql

I have problem saving unicode numbers in mysql database.I use Linux (Fedora Core 1) and i use php to connect to mysql server.

I have no problem using unicode but when it comes to numbers , they are saved as 0.
I use Persian numbers (similar to arabic).

please tell me if there is more specialized forum here i can post this problem .
