Using the MySQL Cluster

Hi!

I read the 'MySQL Cluster Whitepaper', the 'MySQL Cluster Technical Whitepaper' and the 'MySQL Cluster FAQ' but neither explain how I can use the cluster from the programmers site of view.

Do I have to reconnect manually if the 'MySQL Server Node' crashes I'm currently connected with, or does the Connector/J or the C++-library do this automatically and change (if necessary) to the next available 'MySQL Server Node' in the cluster? Or I'm not connected with an particular server but rather with an abstract cluster and a third instance (maybe an enhanced DNS server) manages at which IP address the cluster is available?

Finally some business questions:
Is the cluster software part of a regular commercial license or there extra costs? If yes how much does it cost? What hot-backup-tools are available and what are the costs for them?

Thanks in advice for bringing light in the darkness
Markus

P.S.: At the moment we have several commercial licenses of the MySQL server and our customers are using MySQL-InnoDB-databases with up to 500 million records (~70 million new records per month). Now, the requirements for new projects are that we have to guarantee data redundancy and high availability.
