i installed using a pkg on macOSX and I also installed the startupItems package.
So mySql is in. In terminal I entered:

sudo /Library/StartupItems/MySql/MySql start
respons i get is: //starting up mysql database server.....

good so now it's running.SOMEWHERE

now, following the instructions from this website I go into terminal to begin setting my passwords:

mysql -u root
//UNKNOWN COMMAND

sudo /Library/StartupItems/MySql/MySql -u root
//UNKNOWN ARGUMENT

What you need to understand (if you possibly can) is that 'getting started' means that the person who just opened your 1300 manual has never used sql before, has NO IDEA where this program is(being that it was just installed), how to run it, how to type the path to it in Terminal, and that these difficulties, which take days to solve only drive him further and further toward killing himself, that kind of thing...

So, if there's anyone in here who feels, in this moment, like using some form of human language, I would appreciate the help.

-MICHAEL
