Inner Join

I am having trouble with Inner Join.
When I use "SELECT *" my join displays the two tables as it should, except for some ambiguous issues that surface later in continuting with the project.
However, if I select each field using a comma separated list, (still selecting all fields in the table), my join does not work, I only get the recrods from the first table.
What am I missing here?
