Run mySQL database on LAN

Hello.
I am trying to setup the path of the database folder in the my.ini file. I would like the parameter [datadir] to point to a folder on another PC I have on the LAN.
I've tried everything but there seems to be no way the server accepts it.

Is it possible to get datadir pointing to a directory on another PC on the LAN. Here is the concrete example:

What works: datadir=c:/wamp/bin/mysql/mysql/data
what I'd like and does not work: datadir=x:/databases/mysql/data

I am runnimg the mysql server on windows 7 using wamp.
