Clearing Up Disk Space Option Inquiry

Hey guys I am new to using Mysql server. I wanted to free my disk space a little bit but I have some concern here. I am currently logging in as root user in my own Ubuntu system.
Instead of removing everything of the general log files to clear up the space, is it possible for me to just remove a portion of it? Like only removing this month's log while keeping the past 2 months' log. Because there is some part of log files that I still wish to keep it for my future references.
Any gurus out there can help me out please?
