Thank you! Meanwhile, I did some more research on the Internet and solved part of the problem: the .jar path wasn't listed in the CLASSPATH. Now I have progressed a little, have connected to the server and am trying to launch statements.
He, quite exciting, experimenting with Java/MySQL server for an old COBOL hand like me ;)
