Different data directories for different databases?

This was asked before and never answered, it's now one of my questions. This is trival to do in MSSQL, so can it be done in MySQL?

Is it possible to have different data directories for different databases. Not just different subdirectories of the parent directory but data located in completely different locations (say a different drive for instance). I only see one data dir in the .ini setup file?
