hi rick,

i am not sure if im using any kind of editor. I have always opened the .mysql_history file using VI editor.

Earlier i have mysql 5.0.67 distro and .mysql_history file did not show anything like this. After i installed 5.1.38 i am facing this problem....

I kinda feel that its not due to mysql version(but still not sure).

I might have changed the VI editor setting by mistake..

Can you tell me how can i find and restore the VI editor to default settings. OR upgrade VI editor ..

vi --version
VIM - Vi IMproved 7.1

Linux test.test.com 2.6.23.1-42.fc8 #1 SMP Tue Oct 30 13:55:12 EDT 2007 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

Thanks
