Hm that's very true. I couldn't test the query time from command line 'cause it takes too long to print the 9m lines. Thanks for pointing it out - or I'll still be trying to improve on the 1:30.
A Java app is going to retrieve the 9 million records. These records acts as the historical data for a training algorithm. As for running out of RAM, correct me if I'm wrong, we're retrieving one column only of type double. So 9 million x 8 bytes = 72MB - which fits in the 2G RAM my machine has.
