NULLs and how MySQL handles NOT NULL is baffling to me. But I remember having trouble with how Oracle handled them at first. I did finally get a handle on it. But I don't know if Oracle would allow me to create a field as NOT NULL and make the default basically a NULL?? It never occurred to me to do that. I see it everywhere in MySQL and it drives me nuts! Ruins my queries too!
Sorry it's a bit of a thorn in my backside among other bad database design things I'm dealing with cleaing up.
I also think MySQL needs more reserved words for fieldnames but that's another discussion! :)
