Alphabetical Navigaion

I have a large database of names (over 500) and I need to display a certain number of them at a time with an image. I have everything working, but I can't figure out how to make the alphabetical navitation. Basically, I want it split up so each grouping of letters (name starts with [letter] - [letter]) displays 18 results. So I want the navigation to look like this: A-C | C-E | E-H |, etc. I'm pretty new to PHP/MySQL and I just do not have a clue how to do this. I've asked this question before and people give me this huge explanation that makes no sense to me because I'm not an expert, I only understand the very basics of how to set up queries and such. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
