backup database

Hi,

Hopefully a fairly straight question:

If I want to make a copy of a database can I shut down the host database, copy all the MySQL files from the database folder to the new database folder (and change some file permissions if necessary). For some reason I cannot find this information easily on the net. Most of it want me to use mysqldump or mysqlhotcopy but this is all for running databases.

The database contains InnoDB and MyISAM tables, views, stored procedures, triggers etc.

Thanks.
Raymon
