Thanks you for your response Adam,

To clarify, we are a manufacturer of pipe, a DWA is a defective work advice and is raised to address and track faults in the manufacturing process.

A coupling is used to join pipes however it is also machined from a pipe

So as you can see, both the pipe instance and the coupling (derived from the pipe) instance may generate one or many DWA instances.

if the pipe and the coupling are both parents of the DWA will this cause data integrity issues, or is there a way around it?
