#1030 - Got error -1 from storage engine

My website works fine on my development server, and I've just copied it across to my live server and MYSQL is giving me errors. I recreated the database tables, and even just trying to add a record to one of the tables (which works fine on the dev server) gives me the error:

#1030 - Got error -1 from storage engine

The server info that PHP MyAdmin is spitting out is:
Server: Localhost via UNIX socket
Server version: 5.0.92-community-log
Protocol version: 10

cpsrvd 11.30.4.6
MySQL client version: 4.1.22

Any ideas what the problem could be? It's a really simple table with one three columns in it, so I can't figure out what's wrong. Grateful for any thoughts...
