ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO)

When I try to enter into mysql shell it gives me the error that ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO) although it is showing that password :NO that means that I don't have set the password but it is not letting me to get in.
One more thing How can I change the (Using password: NO) to (Using password: Yes) ?
