OK, I
partly agree with you, but that's only because
taking backups is only a (small) part of a
much bigger picture.
All backups are a complete and utter waste of time, effort and disk space ...
...
until you use them to
restore whatever it was you backed up! ;-)
And, I'm sorry, but at
that point, you have to know what the H*** you're doing, no matter
what DBMS you're working with (and, to a lesser degree, the operating system on which you're running and the applications that are dependent on your database(s)).
There is no "Magic Bullet" to deal with backup and recovery with
any DBMS (except, possibly, MS Access where the recovery position is obvious - start again with something (
anything!) better!). :-)
