Thanks for checking. Your assertion is right regarding what I intend to do.

Must be a bug in that case. Which version did you try it on?
I run Mysql 4.0.20a on Windows 2003 Server.

When I try it on Linux using 4.0.18 I get the correct behaviour. Unfortunately I have to use Windows on the production server. Have to try some other version.
