Getting closer to a solution. LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE.. will work in the mysql client if you start it with the --local-infile=1 option. If it's set to 0 local option is not recognized.
Now if I could change the startup configuration file to do this at startup. I think that file is /etc/mysql/my.cnf. Can you tell me if this is correct and where to place this option in the file.
