Sorry, I should have typed '61', not 'a1'.
What I recently discovered is that on my Mac in Textedit, if I have a Rich Text document containing ä and convert it to plain text and then use a hex editor to examine the file, I see x'61cc88 for the ä. That's probably how I got into this mess in the first place; I must have converted some Rich Text document to plain text and then copy/pasted from there to my Reunion Family File. I now need to find all the places I did this. :(
