At a fundamental level most of the principles from Oracle apply to MySQL.
I had been keen to replace MySQL as the database a choice and put Oracle in, however after spending 2 months learning everything I can about MySQL I see things differently now.
I think the days of the big ubiquitous single database technology are gone, with improved interoperability between database technologies, you could have a an MySQL DB with a Oracle DB for reporting all front loaded by a NoSQL instance and all the subset of technologies that this comes from.
A look with interest that the MySQL CGE has support for both NoSQL and SQL implementations.
