Then the instructions are poor.
Reflect this observation back to your instructor. It may be that they're just trying to [over-]simplify some of the exercises they want you to do later on but, if they really don't understand why it's a problem, be worried.

Yes, the use of Natural Keys over meaningless, sequentially-allocated numbers is a Good Thing and this is only an artificial construct but the principle of using Personal Data in this way is just plain wrong.
