Backups and Recovery
Hi, I'm an Oracle DBA so I understand backup and recovery of a database from the Oracle perspective quite well. In Oracle the database is in mount mode whilst it is being recovered so users cannot access the DB whilst a recovery is in progress.
There is however something that I do not fundamentally understand in regard to MySQL Backup/Recovery. Whilst I do a recovery the mysqld daemon is running and anyone can login whilst I do the recovery (with mysqlbinlog). I understand the --skip-networking option so is that the thing to do before I start a recovery? I am looking for something similar to the mount mode in Oracle...
Best regards
Jose
