escaped character problem

I am importing a sql file into a Mysql 5.7.23 database. It is exported from another database. Yet it fails.

When I checked it turned out it failed on an escaped quote. The field - with its field quotes looks like '\'s-Heerenberg'

I checked what happened if I use different quotes for this field like "\'s-Heerenberg" and in that case the import is processed correctly. Even the escaping quote has been processed as such and is not present in the database.

What causes this problem? And what can I do to fix it?
