I've solved the problem for now by reconfiguring the authentication method to the lower option, compatable with 5.7. In answer to your second question, I don't know. I have opened an am using a support maintenance executable that I designed to maintain the same database that AmeriVet uses. Amerivet opens also, but I have trouble opening some windows, but I'll have to resolve that with possible database modifications.
