Thank you for the nudge. I was asking about converting the .sql dump file (like converting an old .doc file to .docx), as opposed to upgrading MySQL.
But you've given me an idea. I can load the file into my MySQL VM (that's a copy of the live server), and then upgrade that to version 8, and then export the file.
That should work... right?
