y GUESS is that MySQL is not using a my.cnf file.

I have checked for the existence of my.cnf file in the directories that are returned from the

mysqld --verbose --help

Default options are read from the following files in the given order:
/etc/my.cnf
/etc/mysql/my.cnf
/usr/local/mysql/etc/my.cnf
~/.my.cnf

The only location where a my.cnf file exists is in the /etc/ directory.

I can put anything in this file, and restart the server, but I don't receive any error.
