I am seeing this in dmesg.

599685.143004] oom-kill:constraint=CONSTRAINT_NONE,nodemask=(null),cpuset=/,mems_allowed=0,task=mysqld,pid=7760,uid=60
[599685.143114] Out of memory: Killed process 7760 (mysqld) total-vm:8851276kB, anon-rss:3208264kB, file-rss:0kB, shmem-rss:0kB, UID:60 pgtables:10884kB oom_score_adj:0
[599685.449208] oom_reaper: reaped process 7760 (mysqld), now anon-rss:0kB, file-rss:0kB, shmem-rss:0kB

Does this really mean 8GB isn't enough? Or could it be misconfiguration? How can one calculate the memory needs of a mysql instance?
