mysqld vs mysqld-nt

I have mysql loaded onto WXP pro PC via XAMPP. I am trying to understand difference and pro vs con to using either mysqld or mysqld-nt. Why would I want to use one over the other ? Is it not advisable to use mysqld on WXP pro PC ?
