The usual advantages apply, eg implementing on-the-fly derived columns, defining & limiting user access. A set of Views can replace sets of small tables or of complex column privileges, thus reducing server load, and uniquely named session-specific Views may speed up repeat queries. MySQL Views have particular drawbacks, though: FROM clause subqueries are not supported, and performance can be very poor.
