Possible to print out the sort string instead of the actual string (Muenchen instead of München)?

Hi,

I am trying to print out a field containing utf8 entries in its sort order.

This means the actual utf8 entry in the DB is
München

I would like to SELECT this in a way that I get

Munchen (when I use the collation latin1_german1_ci) or
Muenchen (when I use the collation latin1_german2_ci).

I know collations are for sorting - but is there a way to SELECT their internal coding? As far as I would say so far it is not possible, but I hope some expert knows a solution...

Thanks in advance,
Torben
