Table character encoding

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you could find the character encoding of a database by doing "SHOW VARIABLES" and then "character_set_database" would tell you the encoding for the database. But what if I want to find out the encoding of a specific table in a database? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
