Won't it use 8 bytes, 1 byte for the length? Anyway, I didn't realize that UTF-8 varchar for 'joeuser' would only be 8 bytes, that's not bad, so now I know I can convert all columns to varchar UTF-8 from char LATIN and there will only be a marginal diference in size. Thanks.
