Is it possible to set a multi-byte UTF-8 character in ENCLOSED BY (LOAD DATA INFILE)

I'm trying to set an ENCLOSED BY "special" character in a LOAD DATA INFILE statement, using an UTF-8 encoding as server/database/table encodings.
But if a multi-byte character is specified, I get the following error:

ERROR 1083 (42000): Field separator argument is not what is expected; check the manual

Is it actually possible (MySQL ver 5.0) to specify a multi-byte character as enclosing one?
Thanks.
