I doubt this will get implemented. I personally consider MySQL's approach to be superior, I can make a TEXT column Latin1, UTF8, sjis, or any other character set I want, so there is no need to couple the character set to the column type. Any such naming would be for compatability purposes only.

That being said, report it as a feature request at bugs.mysql.com, the developers may have a different opinion than me ;)
