Can not INSERT or UPDATE unicode string through ODBC

I have a problem when adding rows to my table, which has charset utf8, where the source is an encrypted password unicode string. This is done through ODBC called from C++, using code that is working for Jet and SQL Server. Either I get a blank string in the database or a single questionmark.

Normal strings are fine but not a string like this: ³ÎÁÈÂÌÙË. I can insert it through the querybrowser though.

Any ideas?
